We are excited, delighted and very very proud to offer you opportunities to volunteer in Nawaraj’s village school…
We want you, and your pals, to join our volunteer treks to the village school. You do not need to be a certified teacher, or have school experience. You need to be 18 years or older, of amazing character, with a minimum secondary education (high school) diploma (life experience counts), and a competency in spoken and written English. We need volunteers to help us in the beautiful yet remote hills of Nuwakot. We need you to read with children, teach sports, technology, art, or English. With your help we will start a cycle of amazing education and experiences for the pupils. Volunteering in Nepal with our village children helps give them a real life social studies lesson by interacting with you!
Join us for one of our Teaching Treks Nuwakot. We are offering a community homestay volunteer project in Nawaraj's home village of Suryamati. This village is in Ward 9, Nuwakot, around 90 Kms from Kathmandu The area lies away from trekking routes and traditional tourist destinations. It's off the beaten path and a genuine taste of Nepali village life. There’s three options
1) 14 days with teaching and activities
2) 7 days teaching and 7 days cultural experience, such as going to Chitwan and helping with the elephants (additional costs for this as there will be higher outgoings, still be amazing value and a phenomenal experience)
3) This one’s for groups…we can design a package just for your group, use the contact us page or email firstname.lastname@example.org

Our school and community really needs volunteers…
Don’t just take a holiday...
Help us help our community...
with this amazing volunteer experience. You do not need to be a teacher to go on this trek. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who love working with children, are interested in cultural immersion, and going well off the tourist path of Nepal. As a volunteer you will be teaching at Suryamati School, which has around 300 pupils ages from 4 to 17. Timetables would be allocated on arrival with volunteers able to specify particular ages or subjects which interest them. Volunteers are expected to do a minimum of 30 hours teaching or pupil contact time over the 12 days they are in the village. Opportunities could be to assist teaching in English, Maths, Social Sciences or to participate in extra curricular activities.
The overall goal of this trek is to not only ensure that the children in the village are getting the support they need to engage with learning, but also to ensure that their teachers stay connected with other educators and facilitators. By helping the children AND the teachers in these villages, we develop growth and sustainability.
Our goal with this trek is to:
Assist with the redevelopment of the school after the effects of the 2015 earthquake.
Rejuvenate the area with access to employment.
Bringing international volunteers to the area will enhance the language learning of the school pupils and career development of the teaching staff.
Provide much required, and wanted, assistance in the classroom and extra curricular activities
Build time into the programme for the volunteers to engage with the pupils, local community and Nepali culture. Another focus of the project is to positively present the area to international volunteers To this end we have developed an interesting programme of outings, informal classes, cultural displays and cooking experiences which will add texture and value to the time the volunteers spend in Suryamati.
Develop the programme as a way to share ideas, interests, and cultures which will bring benefit to all parties. Suggesting play learning techniques is a great way to do this.
Raise funds toward the school, women's community development trust and health care initiatives.
The project has strong community support which will positively enhance the success of the programme, and the experiences of the volunteers.
What you will do…
On this 14 day itinerary, after your orientation time in Kathmandu, you will head out to Nuwakot to set up camp and meet the children. Your volunteering fees help contribute to school supplies, teaching tools and clothing for the children in the village. You will be going with a guide with excellent English who will help you enjoy this volunteering trek to a place in Nepal that most tourists never see. Your Nepali guide will help you communicate with the villagers.

What this means to volunteers...
You will learn a great deal too. When you embark on a journey like this, you are also exposed to a world that is very unfamiliar. You will see that simple living away from the crowded cities and tourist regions has mind expanding virtues. There is no quiet like Himalayan quiet. There are no nights where the stars are as close to you as in this region of the world. There is no food that tastes better than that cooked over an open fire after a long days trek. Hopefully when you return to your home you will be filled with stories of not only being some of the first western people into a remote region of the Himalayan foothills, but also with a sense of appreciation for the opportunities you have always had at home. People who can do a trek like this, go on to have “can do” lives.
Why you should volunteer on this unique Nepal Teaching Trek
We need you to help us at the beginning because with your help this project will have no end. Your time here will help you grow and achieve, you will have experiences that very few westerners are able to have. We see so much being taken out of Nepal by western companies which charge high prices and have little connection with the communities they pass through. By choosing us you choose to help Nepal. Helping the children of Nuwakot will bring positivity and encouragement to future generations of our community.
With your help we can have a positive impact for generations.
