The Upper Mustang trek takes you to the hidden world of the ancient Buddhist Kingdom of Mustang.  The Upper Mustang trek offers a different perspective on the traditional Himalayan trek as the country is somewhat isolated and closely connected to Tibet in culture, language and geography.

Group departure dates, leaving from Kathmandu; From $1910 pp (if take jeep to Jomsom) From $2000 pp (if flight Pokhara to Jomsom).

March; Thursday 8th and Wednesday 28th , April; Wednesday 4th Friday 20th, May; Saturday 5th  and Monday 21st June Tuesday 5th and Thursday 21st July Wednesday 4th and Tuesday 24th August Friday 3rd and Saturday 18th September;Thursday 1st and Saturday 17th, October; Wednesday 5th and Saturday 15th, November; Wednesday 7th and Saturday 24th, December; Wednesday 12th.

June, July and August Upper Mustang trekking is advised as mountain treks will be suffering from rain and landslides.

Special Mustang visa required at an additional cost of $520 for 10 days.  This will be arranged in KTM, passport photos and original passport required also.  Day 2 of the itinerary will include time to make permit. 

8 clients per guide and assistant guide. Larger groups will have further assistant guides according to their size.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu Arrival (1300m). Transfer to hotel. You will be met on arrival by our English speaking guide and taken to your hotel.  We can either brief you about the upcoming trip on arrival at the hotel or later in the evening.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu, trek preparation, make permit. We can arrange any day excursion in and around Kathmandu.  Historical and cultural tours can be arranged with our local guides. 

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, (6-7 hours) Sightseeing in Pokhara (900m)

Day 4: Pokhara to Jomsom (2720m) Flight, Trek to Kagbeni (2810m) trek to Kagbeni 3 hrs. ( Possible roundtrip day trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3720 m) and back (6 hrs). ) Kagbeni is the entry point to Mustang.

Day 5: Kagbeni to Chele (3050m) Trekking 6 hours through valleys, villages and steep rock gullys.

Day 6: Chele to Syagbochen (3800m) Trekking 8 hours.

Day 7: Syanbochen to Ghami(3520m).

Day 8: Ghami to Tsarang (Charang) (3560m).

Day 9: Tsarang to Lo-manthang (3810m) Trekking 5 hours. There are ancient Gompa on this stage.  Steady trail with moderate climbing.

Day 10: Horse riding excursion to Chosar Cave. Around 4 hours trekking from Lo-manthan lies Chosar Cave. Chosar was once the main trading route with Tibet and Lhasa. Fortresses and Sky caves guard this strategic valley.

Day 11: Lo-manthang to Ghami (3520m)via Marang La and Dhakmar Gompa. Dhakmar to Ghiling 6 hour trekking.

Day 12: Ghami to Samar (3660m).

Day 13: Samar to Kagbeni (2810m) Trekking 7 hours.

Day 14: Kagbeni to Jomsom (2720m) Trekking 3 hours. Kagbeni is the entry/ exit point to Mustang.

Day 15: Jomsom to Pokhara, Sightseeing in Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu Around 7 hours. 

Option A...Days 17, 18, 19, 20: Nuwakot village stay. Tented accommodation, campfire cooking, experience village life under Himalaya skies. Perfect way to chill out after physical and mental challenge of high altitude trekking.

Option B... Days 17, 18, 19, 20: Sightseeing. We can arrange any day excursion in and around Kathmandu.  Historical and cultural tours can be arranged with our local guides. Rest, relaxation and cultural experience days in Kathmandu. 

We will take you to the airport and ensure that you leave Nepal safely, with the experience of a life time safe in your heart.
